Emilio Espejel, born in 1993 in Mexico City, is a Mexican photojournalist now living in Tokyo. He has a deep passion for photography, with a particular focus on subjects like migration, human rights, portraiture, security, and travel journalism.
In 2018, Emilio turned his lens towards the northern border of Mexico, where it meets the United States, to explore the themes of migration and youth. This experience ignited his interest in border issues, and he frequently featured stories from Tijuana, shedding light on this dynamic region.
Emilio's work has been published in outlets such as The Guardian, Associated Press, National Geographic, El País, Gato Pardo, and many others.
Now he is developing a personal series focusing on youth and self-education.
